Peacemakers Prayer Patrols USA – Last stop, Tennessee!

Our last stop for PEACEMAKERS Global Prayer Mission USA was Tennessee, Nashville’s Cumberland View Projects, aka, the infamous Dodge City. We were told that this was one of the most crime-ridden areas, and had a string of weird looks and much discouragements from residents living outside the area. They told us that it would be unsafe for us to go there. But, this was not the first time we were told this about an area, town or city which we were about to Patrol. Thankfully we had Prayer Shields in the UK, New York, and Florida.

On the morning of the Patrol, our guide did not turn up and we were unable to make contact with him by telephone.   However, we had a friendly  bus driver who was familiar with the area and along the journey, we had opportunities to listen and chat with computers, and to pray.

As we were approaching Dodge City, the heavens opened. It rained continually, and so heavily, in fact, it lasted  the whole period designated for the Patrol, so that we were forced to stay on the bus, and to pray from the bus.  We could barely see through the rain drenched windows, and the little that we did see driving through the projects, was not a pretty site.dodge city

On our way back into the City, the rain began to lift, and we got off the bus outside Nashville’s Women’s Rescue Mission.  We were not met with kindness nor empathy, and we were not allowed to speak with the women inside nor on the grounds outside. Someone said this was perhaps because we did not contact the Centre manager beforehand, and therefore we had no permission for a visit.  But, there was a sheltered area about 200 yards across from the main Mission building, where several women sat smoking, taking cover from the drizzling rain. These women were extremely hard to reach. Some of them swore, some turn their backs as we approached them, one woman spat on the ground and a few  just looked as if they were looking straight through us, their eyes appeared glazed as if staring into space, while some chatted in small clusters. However, of the lot, one young woman agreed to speak with us. She said we should refer to her as Dee.

WP_20160817_10_31_33_Pro_LIDee has been homeless for around 4 years, spending time in several shelters, and moving through a few States, but had been at this one for almost 2years. At first, she appeared sarcastic in tone, but as we engaged in conversation, she became less suspicious and became open and engaging. She told us that it was hard for someone to get out of this sort of situation, but that she longed for change. She was hopeful that one day she too would have money, get a place of her own, and make a better life for herself as well as having sufficient to also help others. She was keen that that break would come about from the lottery or some other big break like the Lottery.  Dee had done some volunteering in the past, she had seen others getting out but somehow it seemed that she was never fortunate to be offered that chance.  She also said that women sometimes were raped, robbed and abused in some of these Homes, and she was tired of this way of life. We listened and prayed with her, during the prayer a worker came over and ask us to move on. We truly felt that this was a case that Peacemakers could adopt and offer some sort of sponsorship.  Dee would not give us her full name nor a personal contact telephone number, but she did promise to visit our website and that she would contact  Reverend Palmer through the Contact Us page.  So far, we have not heard from her. It is our hope that in time she may get in touch.

Dee remains in our thoughts and prayers, and although we were not allowed to use our camera on the grounds, we got one of Dee and the Rev as they sat in the shelter across from the Mission Centre.WP_20160817_10_31_05_Pro_LI (3)

The Rev’s Prayer

“There has been a ton load of petition, supplication and all sort of prayerful activities with certain amount of evangelism going on within this area over the years, along with many of these well meaning, goodwill ventures, and entwined within their programmes, has been the subtle hint of the ego, and a mega-fest of infighting for ownership of the presumed results.  This way of doing things is so putrid to the taste bud of a Holy God, and the way of Grace, that there remaineth the seeds of greed, conspiracy, corruption and a false sense of self-righteousness. No-one has the monopoly on God. No. Not a man, not a woman. Not a class nor creed. Not the Church and certainly not the state. We cannot outwit His righteous decrees. We cannot manipulate His hand to work within our set programmes nor our manmade schemes, for the sake of our lust and the intent of some grand position. No.  His Way Is perfect. His Way is Just and Right. It hath been declared ‘not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit’…and Spirit doth not need help. It is only as we are willing to align and attune with The Spirit of Life in God that true transformation happens.  By true transformation, meaning, where no one person, (that includes me) can be attributed the glory.  I think that for too long the spirit of Detroit has been glorified.city Hall atlas                               And it is about time that the Spirit of God is the true Spirit IN Detroit. I say Let it be so dear Lord. Amen.”

EASTER BUNNIES? Prayer Patrols in Bristol’s Shopping Malls and Suburbs

Teams of Prayer Patrols will once again be seen on walkabouts around the streets of Bristol, over the Easter Holidays.

ppwiderThe first Team is set to carry out their Patrols in the Borough of Easton on (Maundy) Thursday 24th March 2016. They will begin at 5 pm at the bottom Warrick Avenue/Fox Road, at the very spot where they held their first Prayer Vigil.  This was also the launch pad for the Respect4Life March in 2005, in respect of Taxi driver Colin Winstone, husband and father of two that was robbed and brutally stabbed to death. BBC NEWS.

Then in lieu of the tragedy, the Reverend Palmer and members of her tiny Patrol Team at the time, kept vigil daily during the investigative process; and thankfully the perpetrator was brought to justice.  After this, the teams stayed in place and working with other groups and alongside the police, continued to patrol the area.  They were out sometimes up to 4 times per week and several times during a given day, depending on the crime statistics of the day. The area has improved a lot since then.

Somalians join with Patrols in a March for Peace 2010

Whilst the new Patrols will not be going out in order to deal with street crime, in particular, they have made it clear that they are nonetheless just as effective in creating transformation and Peaceful communities, by being a visible presence of inspiration, motivation and Blessing in any area they physically patrol.  Through this website Peacemakers Prayer Patrols have become global agents of change, by creating a service for people to leave their PRAYER REQUESTS and get support at any time.

The ‘Easter Bunnies’ second Prayer Patrol will be on (Good) Friday 25th March 2016, in the St. Paul’s area, starting at Midday outside the Learning Center on Grosvenor Road and ending around 3 pm outside Hamilton House on Stokes Croft.   St Paul’s was the ‘Home ground’ for Prayer Patrols. The Bristol Peace Embassy office and base for all their indoor activities also located here.  See Our History, also the links: Prayer Patrol in the News, and  Bristol M Shed Museum Archives of Prayer Patrol. “St Paul’s has been totally revamped in terms of violent street crime and community safety”.   Says the Rev, “And I am really looking forward to this one.  It should be really interesting”.

The third and final Patrol in this series will take place around the main Shopping Malls in Broadmead and Cabot Circus on (Easter) Saturday 26th March 2016, from 1 pm to 3 pm. Then later at night, the will patrol the Quay, one of Bristol’s main Nightlife, starting at 9 pm.

Bless our cityThe Rev is asking anyone who is interested in going out with a team to get in touch first, either by using the CONTACT US below or by email to peacemakersprayerpatrol@gmail.com

    PEACEMAKERS Sponsors Life

Peacemakers Coordinator Reverend Palmer and several of the Prayer Patrollers are taking part in a local event next weekend. The Rev is the keynote Speaker for Life Universecity upcoming Soul Enrichment Seminar on Saturday 19th March, 2016.  This will be held in the city’s newly built Education Facility, the Junction 3 Library and Learning Centre, Easton.

This particular site is of particular interest to the Rev and her Team.  This is one of the boroughs that they patrolled for 7 years. When they began, it was a volatile and dangerous part of the city for gangs, drugs, stabbings and robberies.  But it was not long after they were there that transformation begun taking place.

Derelict buildings were demolished, and new affordable housing began to take shape. This was particularly wonderful because at that time there was a shortage of housing in that area. Now, there is also provision of several self-contained shopfront units under the flats, which creates new enterprise and employment.

Central to the new development  is a stunning modern architecture which facilitates a library, conference and meeting rooms, with some technological equipment for use in house, and open spaces for reading and other activities.
